A letter to my Mother

My childhood was not all sunshine and rainbows. It was a struggle. A struggle for me, for my sister, for my mother. There were some really hard years. Years that I know my mom wishes she could redo. What she doesn’t know is that those are the years that have made me who I am today. Those are the years that formed the bond we have now. Yes, we fought, gosh, we fought ALL. THE. TIME. Mostly because we are exactly the same! We are stubborn, passionate and we wear our hearts on our sleeves. There is no hiding how we feel! And heaven help you once we feel any which way because it will take an act of God to change it!

Those years, however hard they were, I wouldn’t change them. I watched my mom struggle, I watched her overcome those struggles. I watched her open windows when doors would close. I watched her provide a good life for her children out of nothing but her blood, sweat and tears. She showed me that where there is a will there is a way!

I guess the purpose of my post today is that there are things my mother instilled in me that I now hope to instill in my own daughters. This is my driving force for this blog and my life!

1. Be Fearless!

Proverbs 31:25 “She is clothed with strength and dignity and she laughs without fear of the future.”

2. Be Strong!

Psalm 28:7 “The Lord is my strength and my shield.”

3. Work Hard!

Proverbs 31:17 “She is energetic and strong, a hard worker.”

4. Be Beautiful on the Inside & Out!

1 Peter 3:3-4 “Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.”

5. Be a Friend to Everyone!

Luke 6:31 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

6. Always Follow Your Heart!

Psalms 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart

7. Sing Even if you Don’t Know the Words!

Ephesians 5:19 “Speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord”

Song of Songs 4:7 “You are altogether beautiful, my darling, beautiful in every way.”
